Your tummy tuck will take between 2 and 3 hours.

In many cases, depending on the procedure, you will receive general anesthesia.

Your procedure is usually done on an outpatient basis but you may elect to spend the night at Comfort Cottage with a nurse available to help you.

The most common side effects you might have with a tummy tuck are temporary pain, swelling, soreness, numbness of the abdominal skin, bruising and a period of tiredness for several months.

As with all surgical procedures, there are risks involved. With a tummy tuck, you should watch for infection or bleeding, poor healing that results in scarring or skin loss, deep venous thrombosis or pulmonary embolus.

You should be able to return to a limited routine within 1 month. More strenuous activity should be avoided for up to 6 weeks. Scars should fade and flatten in 1 to 2 years.

Your tummy tuck should be permanent if accompanied by a healthy diet and exercise.
