Mommy Makeover in High Point, NC

Fit woman in white

Women’s bodies tend to change due to pregnancy, nursing, aging, and significant weight loss. When one or more of these experiences occur, many women long for their youthful, feminine, and toned body shape.

At Piedmont Plastic Surgery in High Point, North Carolina, our Mommy Makeover treatment combines breast and body contouring procedures to help women regain their figures when proper diet and exercise have failed to produce results.

What Is a Mommy Makeover?

A “Mommy Makeover” is a popular term for a combination of surgeries women get post-pregnancy or weight loss to get their body back to what it looked like before. The Mommy Makeover is highly customizable, and women have the opportunity to choose whichever surgeries they feel they need.

Most commonly, women select a combination of breast procedures (breast lift, breast augmentation, or breast reduction), liposuction, and a tummy tuck.

Am I a Candidate for a Mommy Makeover?

Ideal candidates for a Mommy Makeover should have completed their last pregnancy (and breastfeeding) at least six months to a year before surgery. They must also have realistic expectations, be in good physical health, be non-smokers, and be at or near their ideal body weight.

Candidates for a Mommy Makeover surgery may have one or more of the following issues:

  • Deflated and sagging breasts
  • Stubborn fat deposits
  • Sagging abdominal skin
  • Weakened core muscles

How Is a Mommy Makeover Performed?

While many Mommy Makeovers can be done in one surgery, some will require two. You can ask Dr. Willard what the plan will be for your customized Mommy Makeover.

These surgeries are performed under general anesthesia, and depending on the procedures you choose for your Mommy Makeover, the basics of each surgery are as follows:

  • Breast Augmentation

Dr. Willard makes an incision in the armpit or along the crease beneath the breast. He creates a pocket inside the breast, either under or over the muscle, where he positions the implant and shapes the natural tissue.

  • Breast Lift

During a breast lift, the breast muscles and tissues are tightened and repositioned for a more youthful and natural appearance. Excess skin is removed and the nipple-areola complex is repositioned.

  • Liposuction

A thin tube (cannula) is attached to a medical vacuum and inserted into the target areas through tiny incisions to suction out the unwanted fat.

  • Tummy Tuck

Tummy tuck surgery requires an incision near the bikini line that stretches from hip to hip. This allows the surgeon to access the muscles and resulpt the entire abdominal area. The excess skin is then removed and the incision closed.

Can I Include Additional Procedures in My Mommy Makeover?

While a Mommy Makeover typically includes a combination of breast and body procedures, you can choose to incorporate other “non-traditional” surgeries. These can include labiaplasty, brachioplasty (arm lift surgery), or thigh lift surgery.

Is It Safe to Combine Procedures?

Your plastic surgeon will always put your safety as the priority. They will only allow you to schedule surgeries that are safe to combine. Otherwise, they will require you to book separate procedures.

What Are the Benefits of Combining Surgeries?

There are a few benefits to combining surgeries. These include:

  • Reduced costs
  • Reduced recovery time
  • Taking less time off work
  • A more dramatic “reveal” when you are healed

How Much Is a Mommy Makeover in High Point, NC?

The cost of your Mommy Makeover will depend on the procedures chosen, the surgical techniques, and factors like anesthesia, facility, and surgeon fees. You will receive an accurate cost estimate during your consultation at Piedmont Plastic Surgery.

Financing options are available.

How Should I Prepare for My Mommy Makeover?

What Do I Need to Bring to My Consultation?

After doing some research about Mommy Makeovers, create a list of questions and bring them to your consultation.

During your consultation, Dr. Willard will discuss your goals and plan which combination of surgeries is best for you. A Mommy Makeover is a customized surgery, so ultimately, you will choose which procedures you want.

Additionally, Dr. Willard will review your current health and medical records.

Should I Quit Smoking Before My Mommy Makeover?

If you smoke, you should quit at least two weeks before your procedures, maybe longer. Using nicotine products before or after plastic surgery can lead to severe complications and negatively affect your results.

While your surgery provides an excellent opportunity to quit smoking for good, if you start again, wait at least two weeks after your procedure.

Can I Take Supplements Before My Mommy Makeover to Help Reduce Side Effects Such as Bruising and Swelling?

Arnica and bromelain have been shown to help with the recovery process. You can ask your plastic surgeon for recommendations during your consultation.

What Should I Bring to the Office Surgery Center on the Day of My Mommy Makeover?

Wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothes and bring any compression garments and pain medications that have been filled in advance. You can also bring a pillow with you to ensure you have a comfortable ride home.

Ask the surgeon for his recommendations and talk to other women who have had similar procedures, as they may have some helpful suggestions.

What Can I Do to Ease My Fears Before Surgery?

It’s entirely normal to be anxious before surgery. Try to relax the night before the surgery. Enjoy a relaxing bath and get a good night’s sleep. On the day of surgery, practice some deep breathing if you are still feeling nervous.

How Long Is My Mommy Makeover Recovery?

Your recovery period will depend on the number of procedures performed during your Mommy Makeover. You may want to stay at our Comfort Cottage for the first night, where a nurse will be available to assist you.

Drainage tubes will be placed near the incisions to rid the body of excess fluid, and you will be dressed in compression garments to control swelling and support your new body contours. Swelling and bruising should resolve a few weeks after your surgery.

Avoid exercising and other strenuous activities for six weeks. However, take short slow walks as soon as possible to increase circulation. You should be able to return to normal activities within six weeks of your surgery.

Are There Risks With a Mommy Makeover?

Like all surgeries, breast procedures, tummy tucks, and liposuction pose some risks, including infection, hematoma, blood clots, changes in sensitivity, and scarring.

Following your surgeon’s pre and post-surgical instructions closely will reduce your chances of experiencing these complications.

Will My Mommy Makeover Results Be Permanent?

Depending on the procedures you choose, your Mommy Makeover will be, in large part, a permanent procedure:

Liposuction, tummy tuck, and breast lift or reduction results are permanent. However, subsequent pregnancies, weight fluctuations, and aging will affect your body just as they did before.

Breast implants are long-lasting but not considered permanent as they can experience complications, such as rupture or capsular contracture. Breast implants will only need to be removed and replaced if they develop a complication or you decide on a different aesthetic.

Will I Have Scarring After My Mommy Makeover?

Yes, the nature of any surgery results in scarring. Depending on which procedures you opt for, you will have scarring in multiple places. However, a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon knows how to place incisions in optimal areas for less noticeable scarring. Additionally, scars will fade over time.

When Will I See My Mommy Makeover Results?

Your Mommy Makeover will give you a significant improvement in body shape with more youthful and attractive contours.

You will be able to appreciate your results as soon as the swelling begins to subside, and they will continue to improve as you heal fully.

These results can be long-lasting if you maintain a healthy lifestyle.
